Connecting software to the physical world.
Atmospheric LiDAR systems combine multiple hardware components, each with its own operations. At Raymetrics, I designed backend services that brought those components into a unified control platform.
Architecture and responsibilities from the Raymetrics project.
The problem
Coordinate heterogeneous instruments and expose useful measurement workflows through a common interface, while keeping hardware control separate from database-backed services.
My contribution
I architected the backend control platform, designed command routing and orchestration, and built the APIs and persistence layer for LiDAR measurement data.
Engineering decisions
Hardware behind consistent interfaces
Abstracted lasers, telescopes, hatches and other components behind FastAPI services, giving higher-level workflows a coherent way to interact with the instruments.
From commands to measurements
Designed routing and orchestration layers that composed low-level hardware operations into measurements and scheduled acquisition sequences.
Separate responsibilities
Kept lightweight hardware-control services independently deployable from Django data services. Defined OpenAPI contracts to support a unified frontend control interface.
The result
A backend architecture that connected component-level hardware operations to system-level measurement workflows and provided a shared integration contract for the frontend.
